Microneedling is a wonderful procedure for wrinkles, fine lines and acne scars, but aftercare following each treatment is recommended for optimal results. After your treatment, redness and hot, “sunburn-like” feelings are normal and last for about 3 days. I always recommend for my patients to pause their skincare regimens until redness subsides.
How Should I Take Care of My Skin After Microneedling?
I HIGHLY recommend my patients use a sunscreen with a high SPF rating starting exactly 1 day post procedure. Why? During the short recovery period, your skin will be more sensitive to the sun’s harmful UV rays than usual. It is crucial that we protect the skin at this stage because your skin produces new collagen and elastin during recovery. What are collagen and elastin? In short, these are proteins that are the major keys to having a younger looking face!
My Favorite Post-procedure Product
Speaking of youthful appearances, I’d like to share a little secret about a special post care ingredient that I use on all of my patients here at SkinSmart Dermatology when performing microneedling. It’s called “Regenerating Skin Nectar” by Alastin, and it is my hands-down FAVORITE product in our Skincare Boutique. I incorporate Skin Nectar into every procedure because it contains powerful antioxidants that work to both speed up your recovery period and reduce redness and inflammation (great for patients with Acne, Rosacea, and generally sensitive skin). This means you are both reducing your downtime post procedure while also providing a soothing protective barrier for your skin.
Alastin Regenerating Skin Nectar can be found in our Skincare Boutique, just steps away from my Esthetician corner! I definitely recommend you give it a try the next time you pay us a visit!
