How Does CoolSculpting® Work?
The science behind the CoolSculpting procedure, Cryolipolysis™, was developed by world-renowned dermatologists from Harvard Medical School. Their research showed that fat cells are naturally more vulnerable to the effects of cold than other surrounding tissues, and that fat cells can be safely eliminated without harming the overlying skin. This scientific discovery led to the development of non-invasive CoolSculpting technology.

During your visit, a cooling device is placed on the treatment area. You can return to normal activities immediately.
You may start to see results in a few weeks, with best results seen after 1 to 3 months.
What to Expect During CoolSculpting® Treatment
CoolSculpting treatments are performed with a non-invasive applicator that uses gentle vacuum pressure to draw tissue between two cooling panels. The device delivers precisely controlled cooling to targeted fat cells, crystallizing them without harming the surrounding tissues.
The CoolSculpting procedure is comfortable for most patients. No anesthesia or pain medicine is required. Typically, patients are comfortable enough to read, work on their laptop, listen to music or just relax and fall asleep during the procedure. We offer Wi-Fi while patients relax in a private room during treatment. Each area is typically treated for an hour, so treating the “love handles” requires a total of 2 hours.
Frequently Asked Questions:
As you may expect, the CoolSculpting procedure will feel a little chilly. For the first 5 to 10 minutes, you may feel intense cold as the treated area becomes numb. Since most applicators use a vacuum to draw fatty tissue in, you may also feel some tugging, pulling, and/or mild pinching.
Yes, you can absolutely multitask during your CoolSculpting treatment. You are encouraged to read, check your emails, take a nap, or whatever feels comfortable for you. You can relax while you say goodbye to stubborn fat.
Because the CoolSculpting procedure is completely non-surgical, it’s typically very easy to return to your normal activities after the treatment. Often, patients go back to work on the same day. When you have a CoolSculpting treatment, there are no needles, no surgery, and no downtime.
Typical side effects after the procedure include temporary numbness, redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, and pain. For a few hours after the applicator is removed, many patients do experience redness in the treated area. In rare cases, this redness may persist for a few days, up to 2 weeks, but it will completely resolve itself.
The frozen fat cells become crystallized, then die. The dead fat cells then are naturally processed and eliminated by your body. Some patients wonder if the results are permanent. CoolSculpting results are long term because those fat cells, and that fat bulge, are gone for good.
You may start seeing changes in your body as quickly as 3 weeks after your treatment. The most dramatic results are usually visible after 2 months. Several months after your treatment, your body will still continue to flush out fat cells.
After your CoolSculpting treatment, no special supplements are required. You won’t need to change any of your lifestyle habits because it’s not a diet and exercise program. Many people do feel more motivated to take good care of themselves after a CoolSculpting treatment. They look better, they feel better, and they want to keep their reshaped body healthy.
Results After CoolSculpting®
After just one treatment, many patients see noticeable fat reduction. Treated areas continue to improve for two to four months as the body gets rid of the crystallized fat cells. Because treated fat cells are eliminated you can maintain your results by continuing a healthy diet and exercise routine (results will vary).
