Preventing Rosacea Flare-Ups in Summer

Pools, beaches, picnics, and so much more are finally coming our way with summer here. It’s time to get out into the sun and enjoy looking your best. However, if you’re living with rosacea, the summer may be a time you dread. Sunlight and heat are one of the most common rosacea triggers, and it can be quite a hindrance when you’re trying to enjoy the summer haze. Let’s take a look at how you can combat this common rosacea trigger and still enjoy your summer.

Avoiding Sun Flare-ups

As mentioned earlier, enjoying your summer is going to be about protecting your sensitive skin from the sun as much as possible. Here are some tips on preventing rosacea flare-ups from the sun.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen is important for anyone going out and enjoying the heat. However, sunscreen is especially important to protect more sensitive skin. It is recommended that you apply sunscreen of at least 30 SPF to have adequate protection. While this may not stop rosacea flare-ups by itself, it’s a helpful tool to have in your arsenal.

Protective Clothing

The best way to protect yourself from the sun is by having some form of barrier. That’s why wearing protective clothing is so valuable to avoiding rosacea flare-ups. We recommend wearing a wide-brimmed hat, a loose long-sleeved top, sunglasses, and loose-fitting pants. This will ensure as much of your body is protected as possible while keeping you cool.

Use Shade

As mentioned before, it’s best to have a barrier from the sun when you have rosacea. So if you’re going to be out in the sun, choose a shady spot to rest. We recommend bringing a large umbrella for the beach or choosing to have a picnic under a large tree. This will keep you out of the sun and help avoid flare-ups.
