One of the more popular treatments available today for patients who want to improve their skin’s overall texture and tone is that of microneedling. Drs. Elizabeth Callahan and William Adams of SkinSmart Dermatology in Sarasota, Florida find that this treatment can address many issues at once, making it a beneficial procedure for both men and women seeking healthier, clearer skin. What is microneedling? Microneedling is a specialized skin process that is designed to essentially wound the skin with small needles to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. During this time, the skin increases collagen and elastin, which maintains healthy, youthful-looking skin. This treatment allows for rejuvenation of the face over the course of several weeks with long-lasting results. What should I expect during the microneedling treatment? The microneedling treatment starts with cleansing the skin to remove surface impurities and ensure a fresh canvas to work from. Then, the doctor will apply a topical numbing cream that acts as an anesthetic to ensure patient comfort from start to finish. After the skin has been prepared and the patient is comfortable, a special pen-like device with tiny, sterile needles is run along the skin. It punctures the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin by using a precise, controlled technique across the surface of the skin. These “micro-injuries” then allow the skin to produce collagen and elastin for dramatic results over the course of time as the skin heals. With routine treatments, patients can keep their skin volumized, youthful, and healthy, improving overall skin texture and tone. How do I learn more about microneedling? Microneedling is just one of many treatments available at SkinSmart Dermatology for patients who are interested in improving the skin’s complexion and surface imperfections. If you would like to find out if you are a candidate for microneedling or want to discuss other skin concerns with a professional, we advise you to call our office at (941) 308-7546. We are located in Sarasota, FL at 5911 North Honore Avenue, Ste. #210. Drs. Elizabeth Callahan and William Adams are here to assist with general, cosmetic, and medical dermatology concerns for new and returning patients.
