Dr. Elizabeth Callahan’s Stuffed Puppies are a Hit with Patients and Staff
SARASOTA, FLA. (PRWEB) JULY 9, 2015 — SkinSmart Dermatology Founder and Medical Director Elizabeth Callahan, MD recently presented Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue Director of Development Rob Oglesby with a check for $643.30. This donation was given by SkinSmart Dermatology patients who purchased miniature stuffed puppies for a $5 donation at SkinSmart Dermatology’s check-out counter.
“We thought that if we purchased the plush stuffed puppies for our patients, and offered them the opportunity to donate $5 per puppy, it would not only bring a smile to our patients’ faces when they walked away with a cute stuffed puppy,” she noted, “but it would benefit the homeless dogs and cats Nate’s cares for while finding them new forever homes.”
Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue is a no kill shelter, located in Lakewood Ranch, and so far this year has found homes for more than 749 homeless pets.
“We are grateful for the support we receive from our local community,” said Rob Oglesby, Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue president. “And the SkinSmart Dermatology donation is a great help. The idea of tying in stuffed puppies with a donation program is an excellent concept and we appreciate the enthusiasm of SkinSmart’s patients and staff.”
“I was overwhelmed by the response we had in just a 60-day period,” noted Dr. Callahan. “And I am so grateful that we have some of the most generous animal-loving patients in Southwest Florida.”
“The plush puppies are miniature versions of my Maltese called Perlane,” Dr. Callahan explained. “We added our signature green and purple bows around the stuffed puppies’ necks along with a collar tag and our logo, to give the puppies a personal touch,” added Dr. Callahan.
This campaign will end when the supply of stuffed puppies runs out, but anyone can come to the office at 5911 N. Honore Avenue, Suite #210, near the intersection of N. Honore and University in the ClickBooth office park, one traffic light west of the University Town Center Mall to purchase a stuffed puppy.
SkinSmart Dermatology patients also donate to the Humane Society through a “doggy bank” the practice has placed next to its coffee bar. Coffee and tea are free to patients, but if anyone wishes, they can donate 25 cents per cup via the Humane Society Dog Bank. So far this year, SkinSmart patients have donated more than $312 to the Humane Society using the dog bank.
