Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is an innovative skin rejuvenation treatment involving the application of Levulan® or aminolevulinic acid (ALA), a photosensitizing agent, which is then activated with light.

PDT is safe and effective with visible results after just the first treatment!  To achieve maximum improvement, Dr Callahan usually recommends a series of 3 treatments 2-4 weeks apart. More treatments can be done at periodic intervals in the future to maintain the rejuvenated appearance of the skin.  Palomar Starlux uses pulses of concentrated light to treat the skin comfortably without any downtime.  Please note, after Photodynamic Therapy session you must avoid direct exposure to the sun for 48 hours. After treatment, the skin is extremely photosensitive, therefore, it is important to be out of the sun and even indoor bright light for 2 days after the procedure and to wear a wide-brimmed hat/sun protective clothing/sunscreens when going outside after the treatment (including leaving the office/the ride home).
