Using the newest generation of technology, this procedure emits controlled intense pulses of light to the upper layers of the skin while at the same time delivering beneficial thermal energy to the deeper layers.

Using the Intense Pulsed Light system, we can dramatically improve the look of sun-damaged skin, remove brown age spots (sun-induced freckles), pigmented lesions, and even out skin tone. These treatments are also appropriate for patients with the persistent redness and flushing of rosacea and other skin conditions. The end result of Photofacial treatments is smoother, healthier and younger-appearing skin. Additionally, Photofacial Treatments can be used in conjunction with chemical peels or microdermabrasion to enhance your results.

How does the treatment work?

A broad spectrum of light is transmitted through a small, smooth, transparent hand piece and is gently placed over the skin. Cut-off filters in the hand piece change the wavelength range allowing it to be optimized for different applications and skin types. The light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by either the blood when treating vascular lesions or the melanin when treating pigmented lesions damaging hem. The body's natural processes then remove the injured tissue giving the skin a more even and youthful appearance.

Patients have a high degree of satisfaction with their results. After successive treatments, the skin will feel smoother and appear to have a more even skin tone.

How many treatments will I need?
Photofacial is a 3-5 treatment program that dramatically eliminates signs of sun damage, aging, and rosacea, on the face and neck.  Follow-up treatments may be desired one to two times a year to maintain results. Based on your skin, the amount of damage and your desired results, Dr Callahan can work with you to craft a personalized treatment plan.

What are the requirements to having this procedure?
All patients must have a consultation prior to the procedure. Dr Callahan will evaluate your skin condition and type to determine the best course of action. Pre-treatment, mid-treatment and post-treatment photos will be taken. IPL cannot be used if you are too tan.

How will I look after treatment?
Patients post treatment will appear sunburned and freckles may darken for 3-5 days before flaking off.
