Cosmetic Dermatology Procedures in Sarasota

Women and men from all along the Suncoast of Florida and beyond choose SkinSmart Dermatology® in Sarasota for non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatments. One of the main reasons people choose our practice is because nationally recognized dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon Dr. Elizabeth Callahan performs many of these treatments herself. She takes a personal interest in every patient she sees and is dedicated to providing the most natural looking results.

Dr. Callahan combines an ever-expanding toolbox of non-surgical options with surgical expertise as a dermatologic surgeon to make individualized treatment recommendations. “I consider myself a facial sculptor,” she says. “I use my surgical skills each time I study a patient’s face. My goal is to bring the face back to its natural form.” Dr. Callahan’s practiced eye and innate understanding of facial anatomy help her arrive at the right combination of treatments for each patient’s particular needs. “A single modality isn’t going to correct all of your concerns,” she says. “Many patients require a combination of lasersfillersBOTOX® Cosmetic and cosmeceuticals. The more modalities you have at your disposal, the more targeted the treatments.”

"Dr. Callahan is fantastic. She is the most talented dermatologist in my experience, both on cosmetic work and cancer screening. She is conservative and does a beautiful job with cosmetic work you may want done. On occasion where I had to have biopsies, she leaves little to no scar. Her staff is lovely too! Office is beautifully done and comfortable. Highly recommend." – C.M.

What Are Some Common Cosmetic Dermatology Procedures?

We are pleased to offer the following treatments in our comfortable Sarasota office:

  • Botox and Dysport

How Do I Know Which Cosmetic Dermatology Procedure Is Right for Me?

You are never on your own to determine which treatments will help you achieve your desired improvements. When you schedule an appointment with us, your journey begins with a thoughtful conversation. In order to determine which treatments are ideal for you, we must first get to know you. This goes beyond assessing your skin. We want to know if you are concerned about sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, vascular lesions, loose skin, or other conditions. Believe it or not, patients aren't always concerned about every one of these changes in their skin. Your objectives will be unique to you and we get to know what those are so we can make the right recommendations and get you the rewarding results you deserve as quickly as possible.

Can I Do More Than One Cosmetic Dermatology Procedure at a Time?

It is common to combine various procedures. Doing so can allow you to achieve more dramatic rejuvenation depending on your overall desires for your appearance. For example, Botox or Dysport may be combined with dermal fillers. While they are all injectable treatments, they work differently. Their unique way of affecting the skin makes them complementary. If you are interested in correcting sun damage and the signs of natural aging, chances are you can benefit from a combination of different techniques. After your consultation, you will know exactly which treatments can achieve which improvements, and, from there, you can determine the approach you want to take to feeling amazing in your own skin.

Are There Any Risks Involved with Cosmetic Dermatology?

The treatments that are commonly performed in our office are very low risk. The primary reason is that they are performed either by Dr. Callahan or by a highly-trained member of our clinical team. All treatments carry certain risks so should be performed with extreme care and expertise. For example, injectable treatments are generally considered extremely safe. However, because the skin is broken during injections, there is a slight risk of infection. When we discuss the treatment or treatments that may be best for you, we will go into detail about what you can expect, the risks that are involved, and how we (and you) can work to reduce them.

How Long Does it Take to Recover from These Procedures?

The majority of the treatments performed in cosmetic dermatology do not require any downtime. This does not mean that there are no side effects, but that the side effects that do occur are subtle enough not to interfere with normal activities. The exception is fractional laser resurfacing. This rejuvenating treatment can cause redness and other side effects that take three to five days to resolve. You may need to follow post-treatment care instructions to facilitate optimal healing. Our team is always happy to answer questions regarding aftercare and recovery.
